Governor Kathy Hochul has unveiled a $34.6 million expansion at Shea’s Buffalo Theatre, signaling a major boost for Buffalo’s cultural scene.

The ambitious project adds a four-story, 25,600-square-foot extension on Pearl Street, aiming to preserve the theatre’s historic spirit while enhancing visitor experience.

Planned improvements include a spacious new lobby, upgraded box office, expanded concessions, more restrooms, and vital accessibility features such as three new elevators.

Modern design touches—ranging from stainless steel and limestone exterior elements to crystal-inspired chandeliers inside—promise both comfort and style for guests.

The expansion, coinciding with the theatre’s 100th anniversary, is set to cement Shea’s as a cornerstone of Buffalo’s Theatre District, drawing over 350,000 visitors yearly.

Backed by multiple state agencies, construction is expected to finish in 2027, with performances continuing throughout—ensuring Shea's remains an accessible, thriving arts and economic hub.
